JOB ADVERT: House Manager
The U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) has an opening for a House Manager.
This position is located in Yaounde.

Work Hours: Full time 54 hours/week

BASIC FUNCTION FOR THE HOUSE MANAGER POSITION
Incumbent serves as House Manager and oversees the general operation of the Mission’s Official Residence. He/She has the responsibilities of planning, organizing and coordinating events, managing household calendars and schedules, arranging appointments, scheduling and supervising home maintenance projects, paying household bills and completing any other requested administrative tasks. He/She also cleans, cooks, shops and irons, as necessary.
Detailed Duties and Responsibilities for House Manager
Supervises all official residence household employees. Answers residence phone, receives guests at the door and supervises the reception of visitors. Instructs the cook about upcoming events, instructs other staff about luncheon, dinner and reception arrangements. Assists with planning and organizing parties and events in the residence. Oversees and participates in proper table settings and entertainment prep. Serves meals and drinks and performs wait services related thereto. Checks with the staff on the proper execution of duties. Inspects the silver inventory and wine cellar as well as the linen closets. Counsels the household staff when problems arise. Maintains a good morale in the residence. Monitors staff time and attendance, annual leave and sick leave slips. Acts as liaison between the DCM’s Office, the Protocol Office and the residence. Calls the Embassy’s General Services when maintenance crew is required to perform maintenance and/or repair work at the Residence. Assists with household and family security measures. Performs cleaning, housekeeping and other duties as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education:
Completion of High School (GCE “A” level, Baccalauréat or equivalent). A vocational training diploma in hotel administration or equivalent is desired.
Experience:
Five years experience as House Manager or in a similar position in a hotel or similar institution is desired.
Language:
Level III (Good Working Knowledge) speaking/reading/writing English and French are required and will be tested.
Job Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
House Manager: Must have broad knowledge of household items and their care; must be familiar with and apply all policies, procedures and guidelines governing the Official Residence Employee program. Job knowledge/skills/abilities may be tested.
The candidate must be able to obtain and hold a security clearance.
