JOB ADVERT: LITERACY OFFICER

Summary:

Nascent Solutions is seeking a qualified education expert to implement literacy activities in the North Region of Cameroon, under the Mc Govern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition project sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture(USDA) and implemented by Nascent Solutions. The literacy Officer will work under the supervision of Nascent's Field Coordinator in Garoua.

• Locations: Garoua, Cameroon
• Type of Employment: Salaried, full-time
• Travel: Approximately 15% travel for field work
• Reporting: Reports to Education Manager of Nascent Solutions in Cameroon

Duties and Responsibilities

• Support the implementation of program activities geared to improve the literacy of school age children
• Support the development of literacy materials including teachers guides and other supplementary learning materials
• Support the developement of teacher training material and assist In-Service Teacher training activities
• Support and advise the literacy coaches in the use of classroom teacher observation tools
• Develop an implementation plan for school libraries and mobile reading activities for each school community
• Conduct regular visits to the school to provide technical assistance and ensure proper implementation of program activities
• Work with M&E specialist to create and implement a data collection system and inform alterations in teacher training curriculum manuals
• Prepare and submit project success stories with photos/videos on a regular basis
• Prepare high quality quarterly and annual reports for submission to USDA
• Work with the other technical team members to identify new business developement opportunities and prepare concept notes in education and other related sectors
• Prepare and submit project reports and develop annual performance plans
• Perform other duties as appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS

• A university degree in pedagogy, Science of Education or related field of study
• Profound experience of the Cameroon Francophone education system and Experience in the teaching of French language at primary school level
• Minimum of 5 years of extensive teaching experience

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

• Ability to deliver on assignments on time and under pressure
• Knowledge of local language and/or regional experience is an asset
• Excellent verbal & written communications skills
• Exceptional organizational and supervisory skills,
• Self-motivated, possessing high standards of ethics,
• Personal integrity, honesty, trust worthy and respectful
• Ability and willingness to travel.
