Title: Research Assistant

Contract Duration: 04 months

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation is a global leader in the fight against pediatric HIV and AIDS, working in 19 countries and at over 5,500 sites around the world to prevent the transmission of HIV to children, and to help those already infected. EGPAF works in partnership with the Ministry of Health NACC and the Regional and District Health Teams to support HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment and health systems strengthening services. EGPAF is mainly funded by PEPFAR through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Purpose of the Job

Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation will conduct a study to learn about why men do not want to receive HIV testing. It therefore intends to hire short-term data collectors for a period of at least three months, possibly four months.

Job Summary 

The Research Assistant must be a self-motivated individual who is experienced in qualitative research methods.  This role will include conducting in-depth interviews with men in the community. He will work closely with the other Research Assistants and Study Coordinator to ensure timely and accurate collection of research data. The Research Assistant will also be involved in transcription and/or translation of data

Key Responsibilities:

• Essential duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
• Become certified in human subject ethics course (in training)
• Attend data collection training
• Work with community leaders to identify men to recruit into the study
• Conduct eligibility screening
• Obtain informed consent with all study participants
• Collect data according to the study protocol
• Accurately transcribe and translate the audio recorded data 
• Review, verify and make necessary corrections to the transcripts
• Maintain confidentiality of all information collected
• Compile and prepare weekly updates to the Study Coordinator
• Perform other job-related duties this study.

Skills and competencies

• Proven experience in qualitative research, specifically conducting qualitative research
• Experience in typing on a computer
• Attention to detail
• Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• This position may require working weekends

Qualifications:

• A basic degree in social science, public health or other relevant discipline.
• Computer literacy (ICDL certificate will be an added advantage) 
• Fluent in English and French (spoken and written)- will be tested
