Overview:

Founded in 2002 by President William J. Clinton, the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to strengthening integrated health systems around the world and expanding access to care and treatment for HIV/AIDS, malaria and other illnesses. Based on the premise that business oriented strategy can facilitate solutions to global health challenges, CHAI acts as a catalyst to mobilize new resources and optimize the impact of these resources to save lives, via improved organization of commodity markets and more effective local management. By working in association with governments and other NGO partners, CHAI is focused on large scale impact and, to date, CHAI has secured lower pricing agreements for treatment options in more than 70 countries. In addition, CHAI's teams are working side-by-side with over 30 governments to tackle many of the largest barriers to effective treatment and care.

 The Senior Accountant will work as part of a finance and operations team office  to support program delivery; in accordance with CHAI policies and in full compliance of donor and government rules.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly balance sheet
  • Intercompany reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly preliminary and final financial statements for country teams
  • Analyze monthly variances to budget
  • Assist in the preparation of audits, financial statements and varied fiscal reports
  • Assist in the monthly close process
  • Review accounting documents to ensure accuracy of information and compliance
  • Perform Reconciliation of monthly bank activity for country teams/various bank accounts
  • Prepare of journal entries
  • Review the tabulation, monitoring and distribution of payroll costs to appropriate general ledger accounts
  • Monitor the financial activity on assigned programs and prepares expenditure reports for program managers as needed
  • Prepare and analyze complex financial statements that relate to various fund types and account groups
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the internal control system and make recommendadtions to the Finance Manager for improvement
  • prepare monthly cash forecasts and actual cash need
  • Ensure adequate and up to date records of CHAI assets aee maintained
  • Review Technical Notes prior to approval by Finance Manager and Deputy Country Director or Country Director
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Perform other tasks as necessary

Qualifications:

  • Strong familiarity with financial systems including but not limited to: QuickBooks and Excel
  • Mastery of OHADA accounting laws preferred
  • International accounting experience preferred
  • Non-Profit accounting experience preferred
  • U.S. Government Grant experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and FRSs
  • Dynamic individual with strong managerial, interpersonal, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills are sought for this role
  • Ability to operate in an unstructured but demanding environment, and demonstrable track record of high performance; high level of independence and motivation required
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently as well as with a team

Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent plus 6 years progressive work experience; or Advanced Degree or equivalent plus 4 years work experience; or equivalent total work experience
