Job Advert: Assistant Data Manager
Background: The Center for Health Promotion and Research provides high quality laboratory diagnostic services, undertakes programs to strengthen the health system, and engages in research to increase knowledge and inform policy change.
Position summary: Assist Data Manager to design and develop databases, train users on data collection, perform data processing and analyze high-quality data to enable research teams to meet project targets. Full-time position, based in Bamenda with ~5-15% travel to other regions.
Typical responsibilities:
- Assist the Data Manager to manage complex data, including data from multiple sources and types of database, in collaboration with program team members
- Monitor established processes to assure collection of high-quality data
- Create, revise and maintain standard operating procedures for data management
- Use data visualization and analysis software to create and update graphs, charts, and tables for program monitoring and reporting, in collaboration with research team and under supervision of Data Manager
- Monitor data collection across sites against program targets using established data dashboards
- Identify, report and contribute resolve issues related to data collection to ensure high-quality data
- Design and conduct surveys of users, analyze results, and propose improvements on the use of interactive data systems to improve project performance
- Assist to train and support project personnel with data collection and M&E tools
- Contribute to communication between software developers and users to achieve performance targets
- Collaborate and assist on feature design, integration and user uptake of data collection tools
- Participate in the development of MEAL tools and procedures
- Assist Research Manager and Data Manager in project planning, review and implementation
- Prepare progress reports and contribute to monthly and quarterly project reports
- Perform other duties as needed to ensure the success of the program
Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Health, Sciences, or related area, or equivalent experience
- Preferred: At least 1 year work experience in data managment or related area
- Strong interest and passion to work as part of team to improve public health
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, good working knowledge in French is an advantage
- Ability to plan own work, set priorities and complete under pressure
- Excellent critical thinking skills
- Ability to clean and transform data with Power Query or pandas
- Highly proficient in Excel and/or other data analysis software
- Proficient in data collection software (eg REDCap) or willingness to learn
- Knowledge of SharePoint and the Microsoft 365 platform is a plus
- A high level of initiative and the ability to work independently
- Proven ability to work effectively as member of dynamic team in fast-paced environment
This position is planned for 6 months with possibility for renewal depending on funding availability.
