Job Advert: Debt Recovery/Legal Affairs Officer

Unity Co-operative Society (UNICS Plc) is a Microfinance Institution created on the 15th of January 2000. Among other conventional financial products like savings accounts and current accounts, UNICS Plc has invested a lot in the development of value added services like Automated Teller Machines and the sale of Bank Cards, Online Banking, SMS Banking, Virtual Private Network, and many others. For the past 16 years UNICS Plc has been able to position herself as one of the fastest growing financial institutions in Cameroon with well-developed products tailored to the needs of the public.

To reinforce the legal affairs and debt recovery   team, UNICS Plc is seeking applications from suitable candidates who will be ready to work at any of the Regions hosting our Branches within the National territory.         

Debt Recovery / Legal Affairs Officer:

In order to successfully achieve the purpose of this role, the position holder will:

• Work in collaboration with Branch Managers and team, under the coordination of the Head of Department for Legal Affairs and Recovery, in the proper management of a healthy credit portfolio of the company.
• Work in collaboration with Branch Managers to ensure effective credit analyses and debt collection management in line with company policies.
• Work in collaboration with assigned branches for the follow up and production of regular data  and other regular reports
• Work with assigned legal practitioners to initiate appropriate legal action, within the frame work of debt recovery and other legal issues assigned to him.

Suitable candidates are required to meet the following minimum conditions:

• Have at least two years of practical experience in debt recovery. Experience in a Financial Institution or debt collection department in another company shall be an added advantage.
• Have at least a Bachelors Degree or other equivalent professional studies in law. Practical experience in the chambers of legal practitioners( Lawyers, Bailiffs, Notaries etc) shall  equally be an added advantage
• Have a good mastery of  the OHADA Uniform Acts,
• A personality that is self motivated, engaging, positive, result driven and posses the maturity and personality to command respect.

Additional Strengths:

• Exceptional ability to communicate in English and French verbally and in writing,
• Good knowledge in contemporary legal issues,
• Able to work in a team fostered environment,
• At least a good working  knowledge in Excel,
• Be skilled in maintaining a flexible customer focused culture to the interest of the company.
