The British High Commission in Yaoundé hereby invites applications for the position of UK Trade and Investment Officer. This is an exciting opportunity involving work in key areas of trade and investment promotion alongside the hardworking and ambitious High Commission team. The role is teeming with learning opportunities which help the successful candidate build up an impressive and diverse skills portfolio. This is a full time one year renewable contract.

Responsibilities

The role of UK Trade & Investment Officer includes:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with UK Companies in Cameroon and Central Africa Region. Advise them on local business climate and together with the High Commissions' Prosperity team monitor and record their business successes.
  • Identify and advertise opportunities and monitor sector developments for UK Companies, both new to  Cameroon and Central Africa region and those already active in the country, and identify projects for UKTI's High Value Opportunities programme.
  • Provide support to UK companies looking to export to Cameroon, through UKTIs chargeable service(Overseas Market Introduction Service - OMIS), helping them to take informed decision about their export and market strategies.
  • Maintain and facilitate an effective network of contacts across Cameroonian Government Ministries, relevant organisation, the private sector and UKTI colleagues regionally and in the UK to maximise opportunities for UK companies and increase the impact of inward missions and other visits from the UK.
  • Work with colleagues across the regional network and UKTI head office in London to maximise opportunities for UK companies, increase the impact of inward miission and other visits from the UK.

Key competences Required:

Leading and Communicating: Communicating in English and in French with clarity, conviction and enthusiasm as well as managing and engaging with people with honesty and integrity. Excellent telephone and public speaking skills are necessary.

Collaborating and Partnering: Working collaboratively, sharing information and building supportive, responsive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, whilst having the confidence to challenge assumptions.

Changing and Improving: this is about creating and contributing to a culture of innovation and allowing people to consider and take managed risks.

Achieving Commercial Outcomes: Identifying economic, market and customer issues and using these to promote innovative business models, commercial partnerships and agreements to deliver greatest value.

Managing a Quality Service: delivering operational excellence and creating the most appropriate and cost effective delivery models for delivery of objectives

Specialist skills: Computer literate(Word, Excel, Access, Internet) and ability to pick up on new technological platforms(e.g. webinars) to market opportunities.

Qualification and experience

The candidate must be holder of at least a university degree in a related field have at least 3 years working experience in a similar capacity. Similar experience in an international organizational would be advantageous.
