JOB OPPORTUNITY: HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICER

 

About the position

under the direct supervision of the WCA Human Resources & Administrative Officer, the incumbent will provide support in the areas of contract management, recruitment, employee relations and performance manangement for both Cameroon and WCA regional offices as per ICRAF strategy policies and procedures, Specifically, he/she will have the following responsibilities:

1. Contract Management:

  • Follow up on contract renewal reminders in the region
  • Process other staff letters in relation to their contracts
  • Update personal files for staff with respective letters
  • Process consultancy contracts, badges and maintain Consultancy list
  • Maintain and update contract renewal log

2. Provide support on Employee Relations activities

3. Performance Management

4. Recruitment

  • Selection
  • Preparation of Appointment letters/contracts
  • On boarding of new staff
  • Separation

5. HR Projects

  • Participate on the various HR projects e.g. Compliance audits, etc.
  • Spouse program
  • HIV/AIDS Program
  • Staff welfare activities

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration and/or Management;
  • Minimum of three years working experience as Human Resources Officer providing administrative support to more than one person at a time, preferable in an international organization;
  • Knowledge of an organizations' HRM systems and policies
  • Ability to demonstrate strong administrtive skills
  • Mastery of computer (MS office word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.) and internet;
  • A professional and flexible approach to work, with the ability to prioritize.
  • Experience in delivering strong customer service
  • Extensive team and organizational management experience
  • Attention to detail
  • Adherence to high quality of work
  • Good written and oral communication skils(proficiency in English and French)
  • Good listening skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to take initiative and think outside the box. 

Terms of offer

These positions are on national terms and will be for an initial period of two(2) years, subject to a probation period according to the local labour law. The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is an independant research institution which generates science-based knowledge about the complex role trees play in agricultural landscapes and rural livelihoods. As part of the Centre's work to bring tree-based solutions to bear on poverty and environmental problems, researchers-working in close collaboration with partners-are developing new technologies, tools and policy recommendations for increased food security and ecosystem health.

The Centre's headquarters are located in Nairobi, Kenya, and research is conducted in 23 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We are supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research(CGIAR) and receive funding from over 50 differents donors.

Activities in the West and Central Africa Region(WCA) with Regional Office in Yaoundé, Cameroon are carried out in the Sahel, Upper Guinea and the Humid Tropics zone. The Humid Tropics node(WCA/HT) has offices in Cameroon, Nigeria, DRC, Ghana and Ivory Coast, The node's activities focus on participatory tree domestication of high-value indigenous fruit tree and medicinal plants with particular emphasis on marketing of derived products. The team consists of 80 staff members and many collaborators from partner institutions, including the National Agricultural Research Systems.
