POSITION SUMMARY:

The role of the Data Analyst is to identify and communicate data-driven insights that allow management, stakeholders, and other executives to make more informed decisions. The Data Analyst will have competence in the competitive environment as well as the internal and external business interests of Ovamba.  S/He will know how to navigate Databases.  Candidate will need to have advanced understanding of analytics, diagnostic methodologies,  predictive and prescriptive analytics.

Key Responsibilities

• Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases/data systems
• Designing and maintaining data systems and databases
• Data mining from primary and secondary sources
• Intelligent data organization
• Using statistical tools to interpret data sets with particular attention to trends and patterns that could be valuable for the overall enterprise strategy
• Must understand the value of context of local, national, and global trends that impact both their organization and industry.
• Prepare reports for executive leadership that effectively supports product development and market engagement
• Collaborate with programmers, engineers, and organizational leaders to identify opportunities for process improvements, recommend system modifications, and develop policies for data governance.
• Create appropriate documentation that allows stakeholders to understand the impact of data on strategy & product development
• Developing and implementing data analyses, data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality
• Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

PROFILE 

The data analyst team will work closely with all departments to collect, correct and analyze the data collected and make the necessary recommendations for business improvement.  The right candidate will expertly balance creativity with the analytic approach.  Thinking outside the box is  necessity.

EDUCATION

A Minimum a bachelor's degree in business, management, mathematics, economics, statistics, information science marketing or related field with 3 years’ research as business data analyst.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

• Proven experience as a Data Analyst or Business Analyst
• Intermediary level at data modeling, design, data mining and segmentation techniques
• Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (Business Objects etc.), databases (SQL etc.), programming (XML, JavaScript, or ETL frameworks)
• Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS etc.)
• Strong analytical skills – candidate must be comfortable with large amounts of raw data: field facts, figures, information and ‘number crunching’.  Able to trawl  through data quickly and provide conclusions for working solutions
• Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings
• BS in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management or Statistics

SOFT SKILLS:

Communication: Clear, concise, confident communication style.  Able to communicate findings and transform data expertly for business application and documentation. 

Critical Thinking: Have an eye and understanding of numbers, trends, and data.  Able to reach accurate conclusions based on the findings.

Attention to Detail: Can self-audit work quality and output.  Candidate must be conscious of the impact of data on department and managerial decisions and outcomes.

Math Skills: Math skills would be a bonus.

Problem-Solving: Able to look at data trends and recommend revenue and loss prevention solutions.

Time Management: Being able to prioritize is crucial to success.
