Junior Wildlife Biologist

WWF Cameroon is looking for a Junior Wildlife Biologist in order to ensure the development and implementation of the Jengi TRIDOM programme to the highest standards, in line with the WWF Cameroon Conservation Strategy.
Major Functions and responsibilities:
I. Major Functions
To coordinate all bio-monitoring field operations in collaboration with Park Advisors: team preparation, data collection protocol, etc.
II. Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Work within the Jengi Tridom Project in developing and producing biological statistics, maps and related documents to support the project;
- Work closely with local NGOs, MINFOF and project staffs to identify their needs and advice on the bio-monitoring and GIS data management;
- Organize periodically, round trip to supervise field team and collect data;
- Participate in quarterly planification sessions to identify information needs and provide technical support;
- Assist in the training and development of skills in bio-monitoring field data collection, GIS and MIST;
- Collect, analyse and disseminate spatial informations from field level to programme level;
- Prepare and distribute maps, report and documents in various formats (hard-copy, digital and web-compatible);
- Liaise with other information providers on spatial data issues;
- Ensure proper management of the programme data base;
- Enforce the collaboration with GEF/TRIDOM and database managers from other protected areas within the TRIDOM landscape on the harmonization of databases (bio-monitoring and socio-economic data, MIST) and the different methods of data collection, analysis and reporting;
- Support project components in developing a spatial component into the existing database, and to support the technical staff in using this additional dimension in their database to represent the various project activities appropriately on maps;
- Organize and manage the proper usage of the programme data bank and related tools and ensure the adequate storage of the information on computers;
- Liaise with the programme GIS officer for maps production as needed;
- Carry out any other duties as may be requested by the Project Manager TRIDOM.
What you need:
Required Qualifications
- A university degree (at least a Bachelor degree), preferably in Biology or other relevant field;
- Minimum two (2) years of relevant professional experience in bio-monitoring or other related field. This must include at least one year of experience working in a conservation or development context.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Practical background in GIS and cartography, including knowledge of current GIS softwares (MapInfo, ARC/Info, ARC/View, MIST);
- Knowledge of related software and systems (database, word processing, desktop publishing);
- Knowledge of Remote Sensing and raster-vector integration techniques;
- Familiarity with Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI);
- Excellent inter-personal and general communication skills;
- Strong service orientation;
- Ability to work with minimum supervision in a multi-cultural environment;
