JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

An international humanitarian based in Yaoundé is seeking a highly qualified Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health (AYSRH) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Specialist to support the implementation of AYSRH and GBV prevention and response Programming targeting adolescents and youth. The SRH/GBV Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the quality of AYSRH and GBV activities implemented by local partners and promote integration with other orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) services. The ideal candidate is a strong project manager with demonstrated experience in AYSRH and fluent in French and English. The position is based in Yaoundé with 25 – 30% travel to Douala and Bamenda.

The primary functions of the AYSRH/GBV Specialist are the day-to-day administration, implementation and oversight of AYSRH and GBV services within the OVC project; supervision and capacity building of local partners; ensuring quality of services with training, mentoring, supportive supervision, and developing standard quality assurance and data collection tools; and internal & external coordinate.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic, technical and programmatic AYSRH and GBV leadership in accordance with Catholic Social teaching AYSRH approach, best practices and policy.
  • Overall Oversight of AYSRH and GBV activities, including budget development and tracking, compliance and reporting; ensure that all grant required activities indicators and objectives are successfully met within the project timeframe and allocated budget.
  • Provide technical guidance, including training, coaching and mentoring to local partners’ staff members on AYSRH and GBV issues to ensure quality services are delivered to beneficiaries.
  • Undertake field monitoring visits to assess progress and to identify implementation challenges, provide solutions and implement modifications as well as ensure accurate data collection.
  • Communicate regularly with and source support from SRH, Gender and OVC Technical Advisors to support activity design and implementation.
  • Work closely with the M&E team to review tools for any gaps in data collection and reporting tools to track and assess the SRH and GBV activity progress.
  • Ensure SRH and /or GBV referrals mechanisms are developed and functioning efficiently for beneficiaries.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with national-level government institutions, United States Government, UN organizations, INGOs, Church Partners and national Cos.
  • Support the development of Catholic Social Teaching – aligned AYSRH and GBV curricula and behavior change communication (BCC) materials for use in schools and communities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree in social work, psychotherapy public health, nursing or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 to 5years of experience in managing AYSRH and GBV activities.
  • Experience working with civil society and church organizations, health facilities, and government services.
  • Understanding of and skills in applying Catholic Social Teaching to AYSARH /GBV
  • Experience developing training Curricula job aids, as well facilitating training and workshops.
  • Operates effectively in an inter-disciplinary team environment and identifies opportunities for collaboration.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to use data to inform program implementation.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously set priorities and work well under pressure
  • Possess self-motivation and comfort working independently.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook word, PowerPoint and Excel.
